For those unfamiliar with ATERMES, could you briefly walk us through the company’s history, core competencies, and the key markets you currently serve?
ATERMES, which stands for Applications Techniques Études Réalisations Mécaniques Électroniques Systèmes, was founded in France over three decades ago. Our initial business was as an OEM provider for major defence contractors, delivering high-reliability systems used in some of the most demanding military and industrial applications. Building on this foundation, we evolved into a trusted partner in defence and security technologies, specialising in real-time embedded systems, intelligent optronics, and AI-driven situational awareness. Today, we serve government and industrial clients across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and are actively expanding our presence in Asia and Latin America.
What is ATERMES’ strategic vision for the next 3 to 5 years, particularly in the defence and security technology landscape?
Our vision is built on three key pillars: technological innovation, operational agility, and global expansion. Over the next three to five years, we aim to reinforce our position as a sovereign defence technology provider while expanding our presence across Africa and deepening strategic partnerships in the Middle East and Asia.
In parallel, we are advancing the development of dual-use technologies that serve both military and civilian needs, enhancing our adaptability in an increasingly dynamic and complex geopolitical landscape.
How is ATERMES leveraging recent advancements in AI, data fusion, and real-time systems integration to enhance its solutions for defence and critical infrastructure clients?
ATERMES integrates edge AI directly into the hardware of its systems, enabling all data analysis, threat classification, and decision-making to occur locally, on-site, without dependence on remote servers or external networks.
This represents a key differentiator: our AI operates at the edge, ensuring ultra-low latency, enhanced data security, and real-time responsiveness even in disconnected or contested environments.
Combined with multi-sensor data fusion and seamless real-time integration, our solutions provide actionable intelligence for critical missions while minimising operator workload.
Which technological innovations do you believe will most significantly transform the defence sector in the coming decade, such as AI in decision-making, autonomous systems, or hybrid warfare preparedness?
AI-enabled decision support systems, autonomous surveillance platforms, and multi-domain operational readiness will be critical in shaping the future of defence. The transition toward hybrid warfare, where information dominance and rapid data interpretation are as vital as traditional firepower, is already well underway.

How is ATERMES responding to the growing demand for unmanned and autonomous defence systems? Are there any current or upcoming developments in this area?
We are actively integrating our smart sensors with both aerial and ground-based unmanned platforms. Designed to be compact, rugged, and easily integrated, our systems seamlessly fit into autonomous ecosystems.
Currently, we are involved in several programs where our AI-powered optronic solutions are being deployed on unmanned vehicles to support missions such as border surveillance, critical asset protection, and drone detection.
With national security needs rapidly evolving, how is ATERMES adapting its solutions to better protect critical infrastructure and support complex security missions?
ATERMES delivers modular, scalable solutions tailored for both permanent and temporary deployments. Whether it’s a fixed installation securing critical energy infrastructure or a mobile system supporting border patrol operations, our platforms are designed for plug-and-play deployment, rapid operator training, and seamless interoperability with existing C4ISR ecosystems.

Can you share some of the most notable challenges your clients face today, and how ATERMES is addressing them through integrated, scalable technologies?
Clients today face growing threats from asymmetrical actors, rapidly evolving drone technologies, and the demand for continuous 24/7 surveillance with minimal human intervention. ATERMES addresses these challenges with AI-enhanced detection systems capable of learning and adapting to specific operational environments.
We also emphasise cost-efficiency and interoperability, enabling our clients to scale and adapt their systems as needs evolve without the need to overhaul existing architectures.
How important is interoperability across allied forces and systems in modern defence operations, and what is ATERMES doing to enable this capability?
Interoperability is essential in coalition environments. At ATERMES, our systems are built on open architecture principles and are designed to integrate seamlessly with NATO-standard command-and-control (C2) systems and sensor platforms.

What is your outlook on business growth and strategic partnerships in the Middle East? Which countries or sectors do you see as most promising?
The Middle East is a strategic priority in our international expansion. Countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Qatar are making significant investments in indigenous defence capabilities and advanced surveillance infrastructure.
ATERMES is actively engaged with national entities and system integrators across the region, supporting missions ranging from border security and airport safety to critical asset monitoring. We see strong potential in strengthening our regional presence through local manufacturing partnerships and joint R&D initiatives.
